Friends of Bennett’s Village,

We have lots of exciting news to share. There are several upcoming events that need your participation. We hope you’ll join us.

Public input meetings for Bennett’s Village

In spring 2019, when we first presented the dream of Bennett’s Village to the Charlottesville City Council, we relied on community members like you to share your stories and show your support for the project. We need your help again. The City of Charlottesville and Bennett’s Village are holding several public input meetings to talk about our phased plans to build a multigenerational accessible playspace at Pen Park. Representatives from the City and Bennett’s Village will be at Pen Park in person from 9 am until 5 pm on Monday, March 14 (rain date: Thursday, March 17) and on Zoom at 1 pm and 6 pm on Tuesday, March 15. Come show your support for the project—in person, online, or, if you can’t attend one of the scheduled events, by reaching out to Chris Gensic at Parks and Rec directly (434-970-3656 or gensic@charlottesville.gov) and letting them know you are in support of Bennett’s Village. Note that you must register in advance to attend the online meetings.Together we will build a place where all can play!

Fundraiser at Torchy’s Tacos

Looking for a delicious way to support Bennett’s Village? Show this flier (digitally or physically) from 10 am to 10 pm on Wednesday, March 2, at Torchy’s Tacos, and 15% of your purchase will help us build an accessible treehouse. Eat yummy food and support a great cause! It’s a win-win!

Virginia Outdoors Foundation grant

Bennett’s Village is delighted to share the news that we have received a $25,000 grant to support the design and construction of Phase One of Bennett’s Village, an accessible treehouse. The Virginia Outdoors Foundation’s Get Outdoors (GO) program provides grants for projects that increase equitable access to safe open space in Virginia’s communities. For more information on the grant, see our press release

Interested in taking a greater role in Bennett’s Village?

We have some great opportunities for folks wishing to play a larger role in Bennett’s Village. We’re especially looking for a Volunteer Coordinator, one or more volunteers to help lead our Events team, and community members interested in working on our capital campaign to join our Major Donors Committee or Board of Directors. If you are interested in learning about one or more of these roles, please email bennettsvillage@gmail.com.
