October update

    1. Come support Bennett’s Village at the Brick Oven (in Rio Hill Shopping Center) on Monday, October 22, 5pm–9pm. 20% of all orders (dine-in or carryout) will benefit Bennett’s Village. Bracelets will be available for sale, and volunteers will answer any questions about our work. We hope to see you there!

    1. The Board of Bennett’s Village met last week. We approved our mission and vision statements.
MISSION: Bennett’s Village is dedicated to making the world a more inclusive place for all to play.
VISION: We are working to build a multigenerational, all-abilities playground here in Charlottesville and advocating to change the way our community sees inclusion.

    1. Volunteers are working on the Bennett’s Village website. If you are interested in writing content or taking pictures for the site, please let us know.

  1. Finally, the name “Bennett’s Village” began as the fundraising name for our team to raise money to cure Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA).  Fundraising efforts have resulted in treatments that were showing amazing results for Bennett and many of his friends. Bennett’s Village has participated in every Cure SMA Virginia Walk N Roll since the group started in 2014. Last year, Bennett was a superstar at the fundraiser, showing off by racing backwards and doing circles in his wheelchair. Please send positive thoughts our way this Saturday, October 13, as Bennett’s Village walks for the first time without Bennett there to lead us.
